Halliday Technologies Inc. RT3 Grip is a rugged meter specifically designed to record objective continuous road surface grip in any condition: wet, dry, or at any stage of anti-icing, snow removal and deicing operations. It provides grip readings to the operator of a winter maintenance vehicle via an in-cab control panel with easy to interpret green, yellow, and red LED lights: green indicating good surface conditions, yellow indicating more slippery conditions, and red lights warning of dangerous driving conditions. Data can also be directed real time to a secure web site via a mobile device (see “How RT3 Works”) for management of the winter maintenance process by the winter maintenance coordinator.

RT3 Grip Versions
Presently, the RT3 Grip is manufactured in four versions:
  • under-truck left hand mount
  • under-truck right hand mount
  • fixed hitch right hand mount which can be towed behind a supervisor's vehicle (as used in Sweden & USA)
  • fixed hitch left hand mount which can be towed behind a supervisor's vehicle (as used in Japan & Canada)
Each RT3 Grip meter uses a treaded tire. The display software compensates for tread wear allowing the surface friction reading to remain constant for different tread depth tires.

On the RT3 Grip meter, a steering sensor input is incorporated to remove unwanted friction/grip data being shown or collected when the vehicle travels around a corner.
