These Real-time grip maps show deteriorating conditions on the ring road around Columbus, Ohio during a winter snow event

  • Green represents good surface conditions
  • Yellow represents deteriorating surface conditions
  • Red represents snowy or icy surface conditions

These maps are snapshots of a continuous stream of real-time images available through the use of the RT3 and a mobile data computer. This is particularly helpful for planning winter maintenance response and vehicle deployment. It is also possible to actively monitor levels of service.

"We are convinced that integrating the RT3™ into our winter maintenance program will allow us to make significant progress in the efficient deployment of our resources. With the RT3™ we are able to map and observe real-time friction conditions around two of our main cities, Columbus and Cleveland, during winter events. Because of this data we are investigating ways of indicating to the public when dangerous road conditions exist."
